90-Acre Prescribed Fire Planned Near Tusayan

TUSAYAN, Ariz. - Pending favorable conditions, fire managers on the Tusayan Ranger District are planning to conduct a 90-acre prescribed fire on the Flying J Project two miles southwest of Tusayan Monday, May 7 or Tuesday, May 8.

Managers are in the process of evaluating a specific set of parameters that need to be met in order to start the burn. These factors include fuel moisture, temperature, humidity, and wind. The legal description is T30N,R2E,S28.

Crews will implement, monitor, and patrol the project to ensure it meets objectives outlined in the prescribed burn plan. Prescribed fire is used to improve forest health, enhance wildlife habitat, and return fire to a fire-adapted ecosystem.
