Canal Creek Fire Update – Area Closure and Most Road Closures Lifted

Canal Creek Fire Update - Area Closure And Most Road Closures Lifted

(Sweet Home, OR) Continued progress by US Forest Service firefighters has resulted in 100% containment of the Canal Creek Fire. The area closure and most road closures have been lifted.

Road closures remain in place for Forest Service Road 1131 at the junction with spur road 210, which is also closed; and Forest Service Road 101 at the junction with spur road 108 (also closed). Closure notices will be posted in affected areas; check Inciweb at www.inciweb.org/incident/1863 for closure maps and updates.

Rehabilitation of the fire area is underway. Firefighters are improving areas near the fire's edge where direct handline was used to slow fire spread. Waterbars are being constructed to divert water away from burned slopes and firefighters are pulling woody debris back over handlines for erosion control. Spot-seeding will help promote forest regeneration.

Roads within the fire area will also be improved through blading and the construction of water bars. Rehabilitation activities are expected to continue through October.
