Williams Creek Fire Update 2009-08-18

Incident: Williams Creek Wildfire
Released: 8/18/2009

Glide, OR - Although the 8395-acre Williams Creek Fire is fully contained, much work remains to be done. A total of 261 firefighters remain assigned to the fire. Helicopters dropped buckets of water on the fire yesterday to protect the power transmission lines and to reduce the rate of burning inside the lines. Rehabilitation of suppression lines is underway, as is an assessment of fire damage and needed mitigation efforts.

Today, users of Highway 138 are advised to drive cautiously because Oregon Department of Transportation crews plan to intermittently close the road while removing fallen logs from the ditchline.

The following closures remain in effect: Fall Creek Picnic Area; Williams Creek and Bogus Creek Campgrounds; FS Trail #1513 & Williams Creek Trail (#1514); Williams Creek Camp roads (4710-480); Canton Road, East Fork Rock Creek Road, Miller Creek Road; Scaredman Creek campground; and an area closure on BLM land west & north of the fire area.
