Today's Update: Firefighters' control efforts were successful in halting fire growth. Crews continue to mop up and implement fire suppression repair and rehabilitation. Today, they will continue to mop up hot spots up to 200 feet from the fire perimeter, and patrol the fire area.

Objectives for fire managers are to keep the fire within existing fire containment lines and accomplish fire suppression repair while minimizing damage to bald eagle nesting and winter roost habitat, historic and prehistoric resources, and riparian areas adjacent to Butte Creek.

NorCal Team II assumed command of the Tennant Fire from the Klamath NF on Monday evening, July 20, 2009. Demobilization of resources has begun. NorCal Team II will transfer command of the fire to a local type 3 organization this evening at 6:00pm.

This will be the last Tennant Fire update for NorCal Team II. This evening, fire information for the Tennant Fire will transition to Kerry Greene (Fire Prevention Battalion, Goosenest Ranger District). Her contact information: 530-398-5725 or 530-905-3584.

Location: 7 miles south of Macdoel, California - west of Highway 97.

Estimated Fire Size: 3,225 acres (Federal land: 2,544 acres; Private land: 681 acres)

Jurisdiction: USDA Forest Service, Goosenest Ranger District, Klamath National Forest.

Estimated Containment: 95%

Estimated Containment Date: 7/24/2009 @ 6:00pm

Estimated Cost to Date: $3,600,000 Cause: Under Investigation Injuries: 0

Resources: 12 crews, 47 engines, 3 helicopters, 3 dozers, 9 water tenders: Total Personnel: 597

Evacuations: None. Closures: Shafter Campground on 8Q01 road.

Cooperating Agencies: US Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Siskiyou County Sheriff, Cal Fire, California Highway Patrol, and CalTrans.
