Steep Creek Fire Burning Near Boulder

Incident: Steep Creek Fire Wildfire
Released: 7/20/2009

Richfield, UT- The Steep Creek Fire, burning 11 miles northeast of Boulder, UT, is estimated at 247 acres this morning. The fire is a portion of the Steep Aspen Prescribed Fire that spread to the Escalante Ranger District of the Dixie National Forest on July 17. This prompted managers to declare this portion a wildland fire. Fire personnel expect to have the fire contained on July 25.

A Central Utah Interagency Incident Management Team is managing the fire. Resources currently assigned to the fire include three crews, one engine and a helicopter.

Steep, rugged terrain is making direct suppression efforts difficult. No injuries have been recorded.

The weather has assisted suppression efforts with rain falling on portions of the fire Sunday. Lower afternoon temperatures and higher relative humidity should help firefighters today as they plan to continue constructing and securing firelines.

Over the weekend there was little change on the Amos Canyon Fire burning west of Salina, UT. The fire continues to be managed for resource benefits. The burned area remains at 634 acres.
