Location: 10 miles north of Anaconda, 9 miles southwest of Deer Lodge.
Current Size: 188 Acres on the Pintler Ranger District, Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. No change in size has been reported.
Resources Assigned: As of end of shift today only 1 Type 2 IA crew and a Type 4 Incident Commander, Matt Latray will remain assigned to the incident.
Closures: The area closure for the National Forest System Lands will be rescinded July 28, 2009, a. Allowing public access once again to the areas that generally lie within the Dempsey, Racetrack, and Bielenberg drainages.
The Racetrack Campground and Racetrack Rental Cabin will also be available as of July 28, 2009 after the rescinding of the area closure. The Forest Service conveys its apologies to the public for this inconvenience.
Current Status: More wetting rains occurred over the fire yesterday and are continuing throughout the day today, resulting in the decision to transition to an ICT 4 at 0600 July 28, 2009.
Planned Actions: The long term implementation plan to achieve resource benefit objectives will be updated to reflect the current change in incident status.
Today fire fighters will continue the construction of check line. This line will run north and south from the west flank of the fire and aid in checking fire spread to the north and south of the fire.
Safety Concerns: After the wetting rains yesterday afternoon the conditions around the fire are extremely muddy and slippery.
Weather: Mostly cloudy, with scattered showers and more thunderstorms. The expected high over the fire area will be 60-70 degrees with 46-56% relative humidity.
Cooperating Agencies: Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC), Powell County, U.S. Forest Service.
