Today's Events:
Firefighters completed containment lines along the north perimeter of the fire. Dense fuels and difficult terrain are hampering suppression in the northwestern part of the fire along Roc Creek. Heavy helicopters are being used to drop water on hot areas to make it safer for crews to enter. Small spike camps were established at several points near the fire lines so crews do not have a long and potentially hazardous commute to and from the fire every day. Food and other support for firefighters in spike camps are being provided by the base camp.
A forecast wind shift to the north tomorrow will assist firefighters on the northwest corner of the fire, but may create more difficult conditions for those working on the eastern edge along Sinbad Ridge. Crews will evaluate and prepare to provide structure protection for structures northwest of Buckeye Reservoir near the old landing strip.
A public information meeting was held in the community of Gateway this evening. Officials briefed local residents and answered questions about the fire. For maps and more fire information please go to file:///E:/fire/Sunrise%20Mine%20Fire/www.inciweb.org/incident/2877/.
