Pre-evacuation Information
Incident: Rombo Mountain Wildland Fire
Released: 8/16/2007
Pre-Evacuation Information
August 16, 2007
· Due to weather conditions and the potential for extreme fire behavior, fire suppression actions on the Rombo Mountain Fire may not be successful. Therefore, a "stage 1" precautionary notice has been enacted by the Ravalli County Sheriff.
· On August 16 the Ravalli County Sheriff, Bitterroot National Forest and Rombo Mountain Fire Incident Management Team managers, and the Painted Rocks and West Fork Volunteer Fire Departments met to evaluate the need for a precautionary notice to residents in fire protection zones 11 and 12 (from just south of Painted Rocks State Park Campground north to Beavertail Road) to prepare for a possible evacuation notice that could occur in the near future.
· The consideration to issue a pre-evacuation notice is precautionary only. However, conditions can change quickly, and with the pre-evacuation notice residents should plan and prepare for an evacuation should the need to evacuate arise. Ravalli County Sheriff's deputies and volunteer firefighters from the Painted Rocks Volunteer Fire Department have been making house-to-house visits to notify and talk to residents.
· Residents are urged to start taking precautions by setting out hoses, running sprinklers and establishing a sprinkler system in the areas most at risk on their properties. Fire managers can advise homeowners on placement and location of sprinkling systems.
· Residents in other fire protection zones to the north and south of zones 11, 12, and 13 will be notified if they need to prepare for pre-evacuation at some point. Zones 10 (from just south of Painted Rocks State Park campground), 14 (Road 5715 north to Boulder Creek), 15 (Boulder Creek north approximately to Pike Creek) and 16 (Pine Creek north to Trapper's Lodge) could be affected. Ravalli County Sheriff's deputies and volunteer firefighters from the Painted Rocks and West Fork Volunteer Fire Departments would make house-to-house visits to notify and talk to residents if a pre-evacuation notice were issued for their zones.
