Red Flag Warning for Sunday
Incident: Jocko Lakes Wildland Fire
Released: 8/26/2007
A red flag warning is in effect today from 10 am until 8 pm this evening for strong westerly winds. Predicted winds, low humidity and very dry fuels will create dangerous fire weather conditions.
Cooler but continued windy conditions are expected over the fire today behind last night's cold front. The front prevented inversion formation overnight and this caused poor recoveries. Unstable conditions and strong winds aloft will allow winds aloft to mix down later this morning and continue into the afternoon hours. Cooler weather and increased cloud cover will keep humidity higher this afternoon but sustained winds will create enough of a threat for fire spread and falling snags to support a Red Flag Warning. Monday looks to be continued cool with less wind with humidity values again beginning to fall. Tuesday and Wednesday will see an upper level ridge build into the Pacific Northwest which will bring a drying and warming trend. The next frontal passage or wind event is not expected until Friday.
