Incident: Skyland
Released: 8/29/2007

Preparations are being completed for the transition of management of the Skyland fire to a smaller organization referred to as a "Type 3" Incident Management Team. Tom Heintz will formally transition command at the beginning of the work shift tomorrow (Thursday) morning at 06:00. The new Incident Commander will be Curtis Stanley. Although the number of personnel will be considerably reduced, all the components required to manage the incident will be in place. The current Incident Command Post will be closed down and incident management is being moved to a different location.

The formal closeout of the Heintz Northern Rockies IMT will take place with the two National Forests, the Blackfeet Tribe, the BIA, Montana DNRC, and the Glacier National Park authorities at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.

Tom expressed his thank you to all who we have had such positive contact with while in this area working on the fire. There has been a great number of folks coming together in a cooperative fashion to make suppression, stability, and rehabilitation on this fire go smoothly. Thank you all.
