Fireline Explosives Used on Skyland Fire

- August 19, 2007 13:00 p.m. MT - Fireline Explosive, also known as FLE, is used to expose mineral soil, helping to construct line in some areas. On the Skyland Fire, FLE has been used to aid line construction along portions of the south side of the fire. Before laying the FLE, prep work has to occur. Firefighters clear the way using chainsaws. After the FLE has been used, firefighters return to finish clearing the line.
