- August 18, 2007 12:00 p.m. MT - The video clip shows August 17, 2007 fire behavior on the south side of the Skyland Fire in Northwestern Montana. The extended active crowning caught on film serves as an illustration of the current burning conditions in lodgepole pine and subalpine fir forests. These conditions are a result of very dry timber fuels, high temperatures, low relative humidity and strong variable winds. The current high Energy Release Component, and High Burning Index lead to extreme fire behavior.
The video was taken by Cole Orozco, Helicopter Manager, on Division S in the Red Poacher Creek area.
