he Windy Peak Fire, first detected on August 23, is a lightning-caused fire north of the Middle Fork of the Kings River near Simpson Meadow in Kings Canyon National Park. It has grown to 640 acres at is 50% contained. Fire activity has substantially decreased.Fire crews are holding this fire north of the Kings River and along an avalanche chute to the west. There are currently no threats to life or property. This wilderness fire is in a remote location and will not affect visitors to popular park destinations.
