THIS WILL BE THE FINAL UPDATE FOR THE LODGEPOLE FIRE UNLESS SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN FIRE ACTIVITY.
The Lodgepole Fire was detected at approximately 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20. Local fire resources were dispatched to the scene where aggressive fire suppression efforts were put into place. On Monday, July 22 Adell's Type 2 Incident Management Team took over management of the fire. Houseman’s NIMO (National Incident Management Organization) and Whalen’s Type 2 IMT took command of the fire Sunday, August 4 at 6:00 am. A transfer of command from Whalen's Type 2 Team to the Salmon-Challis National Forest Type 3 organization took place at 7:00 am, Saturday, August 17th.
Increased clouds and moisture yesterday led to decreased fire activity on the Lodgepole Fire. Firefighters completed the re-wrapping of historic cabins in the Twin Peaks area. Management of the fire will transition to a Type 4 IC (Rhoades) at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24. The Type 2 handcrew will stage in Challis for initial attack due to lightning activity throughout the south end of the Salmon-Challis NF over the past two days and that is predicted over the weekend. The current closure area will be evaluated for public safety and may be reduced in accordance with evaluations, possibly as soon as Tuesday, August 27. There will continue to be visible fire activity in the higher elevations of the fire. Monitoring of the activity will continue until it is suppressed by later seasonal moisture.
