Incident Overview

Over 300 lightning strikes were received along the escarpment on the east side of the Plumas NF on August 15. Four fires were reported shortly thereafter.

They are:

1) Constantia - (T25N,R17,S33) 65 acres, west of Constantia Road and south of Doyle. Ten acres are on the Plumas NF with the remainder in Carson City BLM direct protection area. Firefighters made good progress and had a line around it at 5:00 am on August 16. The fire was burning in grass/brush on the lower 1/3 of the slope.

2) Ferris - (T26N,R15E,S30) 1/10th acre & quickly contained

3) Siegfreid - (T25N,R14E,S17) 1/10th acre & quickly contained

4) Lake Road (Frenchman)- (T23N,R16E,S24) Sierra Valley Volunteers called the fire in and were responded with Forest Service. 1/10th acre and quickly contained

Air recon is up today and will be flying over the area hit by lightning looking for any other smokes. Lightning is not predicted for today but is for tomorrow (August 17). Weather is cooler and humidity is higher.
