This is the final update on this fire

The Antoine 2 Fire was wind tested yesterday afternoon and last night with wind speeds up to 20 mph with no fire escapes or growth. Crews will continue mop up and start rehabilitation of fire trails today. Full containment of the fire is expected at 6 PM today. The containment level is a gauge of the confidence fire managers have that the fire will not escape containment lines.

A significant number of people and equipment will be released today and those remaining will be released Friday morning. All helicopters will be released at noon today. The fire will continue to be monitored for several days by the responsible local fire agencies.

Final acre total is 6,837 acres. The fire is located seven miles north of Chelan Washington near Wells Dam on the Columbia River in Chelan and Okanogan counties. The fire started around noon on Sunday and burned in grass, brush and timber. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

All roads are open. The level one evacuation notice on residences in the area of the fire was lifted yesterday. Alta Lake State Park is open. For further information contact Alta Lake State Park at (509) 923-2473. Travelers on highway 97 may encounter reduced speeds in the area of the fire.

The weather forecast remains favorable with slightly cooler temperatures to 91 degrees, slightly higher relative humidity to 15%, and diminished winds up to 8 mph in the afternoon.

Overall management of the fire was turned over to type 2 Washington Interagency Incident Management Team #3 at 6 PM on Monday, August 6, to relieve the type 3 team and local fire agencies who did an excellent job in stopping the fire.

Base camp is located at the Brewster High School.
