Prior information:

This is a lightning-caused fire in a remote area of the Scapegoat Wilderness on the Seeley Lake Ranger District northeast of Ovando. The fire is currently at 178 acres and is burning in an area affected by the Canyon Creek Fire in 1988, the Cabin Creek Fire in 2001 and the Conger Creek Fire in 2007. The regeneration created by these fires and their high live fuel moistures are acting as a governor on fire growth. The North Fork Cabin has been wrapped to protect it from fire embers. Protection materials are in place to wrap the Carmichael Cabin about five miles to the northeast of the fire and two trail bridges. Approximately .15 inches of rain was received across the fire area on Wednesday night August 8th. The fire is located about 25 miles northeast of Clearwater Crossing. The incident management has been turned over to a Type 3 Team led by Tim Metzger. A ten person Wildland Fire Module is presently assigned to the incident and is stationed in the fire area. Forest Closures have been issued by the Supervisors of the Flathead, Lewis & Clark and Lolo National Forests that affect the areas around Danaher Meadows, Benchmark and Evans Peak.
