Everglades National Park's Fire Management is managing a lightning ignited wildfire which started Tuesday, July 3rd.
The fire has spread to approximately 1500 acres. Resources assigned to the fire to date include 3 engines, 2 helicopters, and 1 Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT).
Fire management operations continue holding fire east of the main park road, and utilizing aviation resources when needed to minimize fire growth to the south and east. Precipitation amounts support projected containment.
Potential closures along main park road may occur. No park structures or visitor facilities are currently threatened. Firefighters are actively managing fire activity in order to protect Cape Sable Seaside Sparrow habitat located adjacent to the fire.
