Incident Overview

The Lightner Fire was detected June 26 at 12:45 PM and was started by lightning. The fire is burning about 3.5 miles west of Durango in the Lightner Creek drainage on the north side of Highway 160. The fire is located approximately 1.5 miles north of the junction of County Roads 207 and 208, and west of County Road 208. The fire started on the Perins Peak State Wildlife Area and burned up onto public lands managed by the BLM Tres Rios Field Office.

The 80-acre fire was 100% contained as of July 3, 2012 at 1900.

The pre-evacuation alert was lifted at 8:00 PM Thursday, June 28.
