Outlook

Planned Actions

A cold front arriving over the area today (May 26) will provide additional relief to the fire. Last night, a “mega moisture burst” brought humidity levels up to 99%, which increased moisture levels in the forest. Today’s temperatures will be 20 degrees below the average normal with humidity levels as high as 30%. Winds from the west, southwest at 20-25 mph with gusts to 45 are expected. Winds are expected to blow ash and dust. Current weather conditions will also reduce the risk of new fires starting. Today crews will continue patrolling and mopping up containment lines. Areas disturbed by suppression actions will continue to be rehabilitated today. Firefighters continue using chippers and masticators to remove slash from around the community of Crown King. As fire activity continues to decrease, additional fire personnel will continue to be released. Four hundred additional resources will be released today. The Type 1 Incident Management Team will turn the fire back to the Prescott National Forest to manage with a smaller Type 3 organization on Sunday (May 27).
