Implementation of BAER treatments for the Las Conchas fire area within the Santa Fe National Forest is nearing completion. Aerial seeding has been completed on 5,200 acres and aerial mulching is underway on 1,100 acres. Road improvements and work in drainages has been completed. Approximately 117 cultural sites were identified and treated by hand - sites in wilderness areas were seeded, and others were applied with seed and straw mulch. The trail work contracts have been posted for bids and work is expected to be completed by early September. For additional BAER treatment implementation plans and accomplishments, please see the most recent update posted under the Announcements tab.

Santa Fe National Forest officials are evaluating the hazards and risks on those Forest roads accessing private property within the burned area to determine which roads may be reopened and when. That risk and safety assessment is currently underway and may be completed within the next several days.

An "updated (07-27-11)" Las Conchas Fire "Burn Severity Map" is posted under "Maps" and can also be downloaded from the National Interagency Fire Center public FTP site. The "instructions for downloading burn severity map" article can be found in the "Announcements" section. In addition, a Las Conchas BAER Treatment Map has been added to the maps section of the website depicting the areas planned for seeding, mulching, trail and road repair work.

The Las Conchas Burned-Area Report 07-29-11 is now available and can be found under the Announcement link and expands on the "Executive Summary for Resources and Threats Identified by the Las Conchas BAER Assessment" and "acres burned, listed by jurisdiction" documents also found in "Announcements."
