INCIDENT UPDATED 8/1/2011
Approximate Location
34.544 latitude, -77.673 longitude
Incident Overview
- The Juniper Road fire was started by lightning on the afternoon of June 19, 2011. Presently, the fire is 31,140 acres or 48.7 square miles in size and 85% contained. In the absence of rainfall, the fire continues to smolder, flare and torch trees along the western, southern and southeastern fire perimeters. This level of fire actively is expected to continue for the foreseeable future. Burnout operations being conducted on the fire's western containment line will serve to lessen the amount of hazardous fuel available for ignition from underlying ground fire. Thunderstorms on Thursday (7/21) afternoon did bring 0.5+ inch of rain to Division G(olf) and a trace to F(oxtrot) but much more is needed. The Brandon Incident Management Team is now managing the fire.
