We are just completing three days of burning up Deadman Creek Drainage in the Deadman Timber Sale area. The last three days we've had great burning conditions and completed 122 acres across some challenging terrain.

If favorable weather conditions persist through the weekend we may burn more units up Cottonwood Creek Drainage southeast of Chewelah.

The locations being burned are underneath the trees in mostly semi-open forested areas, some of which have been timber harvested recently. The fuels we will be burning are a mix of timber litter, brush, and pockets of light logging slash (jackpots).

Significant Events

Locations of prescribed burns completed and planned for Spring 2012: 1) Lake Ellen Area - 570 acres burned on 4/15 2) Deadman Creek Drainage area - 86 acres on 4/23 3) Renner Lake area - 275 acres on 4/25 4) Flowery Trail - 40 acres on 5/8 5) Quartzite in Cottonwood Creek SE of Chewelah - 159 acres on 5/9 and 5/10 6) Paradise Peak up Sherman Pass 12 miles west of Kettle Falls - 787 acres on 5/11 7) An additional 122 acres up Deadman Creek Drainage on 5/16-18. Later this month 1) Pend Oreille Lakes area 2)An additional 100 acres up Cottonwood Creek Drainage southeast of Chewelah 3) Up Aladdin Highway on the west slopes of Aladdin Mountain
