Orange heavy helicopter flies water to the Canal Creek Fire

The Canal Creek Fire is located approximately eight air miles southwest of Detroit, OR, and 21 miles northeast of Sweet Home. It has burned in a late successional reserve with large, heavy fuels on steep slopes. A Type 3 Team led by John Poet is managing the fire. Two crews remain on hand to mop-up, patrol and rehabilitate fireline as needed. Helicopters are available on call if necessary. Warm and dry weather has returned this week. Road and area closures to protect public and firefighter safety are in place. Quartzville Road (#11) and Kinney Creek Road (#2212) are open. The Kinney Creek arm of Detroit Reservoir is now unrestricted.
