Incident Overview

Red Rock and Harrington Fire Updates:

Etna, CA -The Red Rock Fire, burning in the Marble Mountain Wilderness, is currently 1,373 acres and 80% contained. The size of the fire has not increased, as fire crews were successful in holding it within containment lines. The fire line along the northwest corner has been reinforced with pressurized fire hoses for crews to use during mop up and to cool down any fire advancing towards the line. Crews will continue to fall dangerous trees and snags in the NW corner of the fire before crews can aggressively mop up that portion of the fire's perimeter.

Again today, temperatures across the fire area are expected to increase slightly and the fuel moisture will decrease. Very small amounts of smoke were visible over the fire area yesterday and even less is expected today. An infra-red photograph taken yesterday revealed a few scattered hot spots in the interior of the fire but most of the heat signatures are located along the north western edge.

The Harrington Fire, in the Siskiyou Wilderness remains at 142 acres and is now 95% contained. Only a few smokes were discovered and extinguished within the interior of the fire. Fire crews will continue to patrol and mop up any hot spots they find for one more day. Starting Monday the fire will be patrolled from the air and no ground crews will be needed.

The Klamath National Forest has issued closure orders for roads, trailheads, trails, and an area around the fire to provide for public safety during the Red Rock Fire. A section of the Pacific Crest Trail has also been closed. For further information, please refer to the map contained on the Inciweb website: http://www.inciweb.org/incident/1845/. The Forest is reviewing opening parts of the closures as soon as possible.
