Incident Overview
The Tennant Fire, which started on Sunday afternoon, July 19, is burning approximately 7 miles south of Macdoel, California.
The fire area primarily east of State Highway 97. Highway 97 is a major travel route for commerce, recreation, and commuters and is being monitored for smoke impacts. Old State Highway 97 has reopened to the public but with reduced speed through the fire area.
Firefighters' control efforts were successful in halting fire growth. Objectives for fire managers are to keep the fire within existing containment lines and accomplish fire suppression repair while minimizing fire damage to bald eagle nesting and winter roost habitat, historic and prehistoric resources, and riparian areas adjacent to Butte Creek.
NorCal Team II assumed command of the Tennant Fire from the Klamath NF on Monday evening, July 20, 2009. Demobilization of resources has begun. NorCal Team II will transfer command of the fire to a local type 3 organization this evening, Friday 24, 2009, at 6:00pm.
