Despite the hot and dry conditions today, firefighters continued to make significant progress on the Soldier Fire. Firefighters worked tirelessly to complete, reinforce and mop up along the fireline. Their efforts have paid off as the fire is now 100% contained.

Firefighters mopped up areas where heat and burning material presented a threat to the fireline. In the interior of the fire, smoldering vegetation such as stump holes and heavy logs will continue to burn and be consumed. Light smoke from the burning vegetation may still be visible to the public from certain areas northeast of the fire.

Resources are being released and will continue to match the needs of the fire. Tomorrow, the Northern New Mexico Type 3 Team will turn the fire over to a Type 4 organization. Resources on the fire tomorrow will include: 1 engine, 1 Type 2 crew, and 3 overhead.

THIS IS THE FINAL UPDATE FOR THE SOLDIER FIRE UNLESS THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT CHANGES.
